Recording Tennis Scores and Stats

HomeParentsRecording Tennis Scores and Stats

GT STATS has been engineered to provide coaches, players and parents with maximum effect from an easy to user interface.

Once you’ve loaded the details of a match like the players, court surface etc, you will find yourself at the “Serving First” screen. You can also select your Remote Users from this screen.Details here.

After you’ve selected the player serving first, you’re ready to record the stats of the match.

Serve/Return Screen

The first screen you will see when loading a match is the Serve/Return screen. From this point on, you need to remember that yellow balls are for Winners and Forced Errors. Red balls are for Unforced Errors.

If the first serve is a fault, just tap the red ball under the server’s name (left side). GVT STATS will ask you for the location of the fault ie “Net”, “Wide” or “Long”. Tap one of those and the top row of balls will fade, illuminating the bottom row ready for a second serve.

The rest is fairly self-explanatory. The 2 balls on the left are for the server’s stats. The balls on the right are for the returner. If the point goes beyond these 2 shots, you’re going to need to tap the middle ball for a 3+ shot rally.

Serve/Return & 3+ Shot Rally Screens

3+ Shot Rally Screen

Notice the server still appears on the left and the receiver on the right. On this screen you need only tap which player ended the point and how it ended. If an unforced error ended the point, you will be prompted to tap the error location – net/wide/long.
Once done, GT STATS will return you to the serve/return screen ready for the next point. Note the score has been updated at the bottom right. GT STATS will maintain correct tennis scoring throughout a match.

Other Functions

There are 3 icons at the top right of screen. From left to right, they are:

The pencil icon will display a pop-up box which allows you to enter any text you like during a match. The text will appear in the Point Count display of the stats screen. Any text added here will also be updated on a Remote User’s screen.

The undo icon will delete the last point you loaded and any associated stats that go with it.

If you make a mistake, you can tap the undo icon at the top right of screen. Complete a point then tap that icon to undo the score and any associated stats.

The graph icon takes you to the stats screen at any stage of a match. From there you can also view graphs of each player’s stats.

If you miss part of a match, you can catch up by tapping the + icons next to the score at the bottom of screen. Tapping + will adjust the score without loading any stats.

Last of all are the directional arrows between the player’s names at the top of screen. They ONLY appear at the start of a set or at all times during a tiebreak (hence they don’t appear in the image above).

In this coach’s experience, tiebreak scoring is where juniors are more likely to get the server wrong. If they do, tap the arrows to reverse the server.
